Close call...

I am back after some time to write this post ...but this time it is something that has bothered me..

It was one evening on a work day when I was returning from work. As usual the company shuttle dropped us on the usual spot which was a designated for us to get dropped and most of us cross the main road near the Udayam theatre signal to proceed towards our respective residence. The stretch was made a one way with huge flow of traffic and a traffic signal installed ,without which it really becomes difficult to cross this stretch...virtually impossible at 7:30 PM.

The signal flashed red and the countdown timer started at 20 and proceeded..19..18..17...
Even at 15 (five seconds after it flashed RED) no one bothered to stop and the vehicles were rushing at top speed. We need to form a group and then cross the stretch and some of them stopped, while the other smaller vehicles still rushed between us.

It was at this juncture that the unexpected happened. Suddenly from nowhere a share auto, rushed toward  this group at full speed and was taking a turn  .One guy in the crowd was in a hurry and was running while crossing to reach the other end and was next to me.He did not see this Share auto and was running towards the pavement. The share auto cam from behind of a car(which slowed down) and manoeuvred to an empty spot which was also targeted by this guy next to me.

I noticed this and quickly pulled this guy aside as hard as I could and the share auto applied brakes and just scratched across the street and cam to a halt. Had I not pulled him, that guy would have been hit and would have got injured for sure.

The takeaway from this incident. Never trust the RED signal and still watch out for the vehicles on road.

One thing that struck me was, we as a city have adopted so many things from the western world, be it food, clothing , lifestyle or even some of their culture which are alien to us. Why do not we also adopt the good things as well ,like traffic discipline. I am sure that most foreign countries have much better adherence to traffic rules and respect pedestrians (esp USA ). We need this change for sure and non adherence to be punished on the spot. Lets see if we can respect traffic signals and show better maturity and responsibility as any life is precious.

Winning your boss

As I was observing on the Process of Appraisals that were going on in my new Organisation, it brought about the subjectivity that is present in the system. The only way to come out in flying colors is, be a pet to your Boss and reap rich dividends. Though the companies claim about the various thought process that has been put forward in designing the appraisal system, it all boils down to the previous line you just read. I know a guy who always came out with the best score possible during the appraisal not because he did a great job but for his attitude to tasks given by his Boss. I do not claim that he is a person who just thrives because of the "pet" tag , though he does pretty decent job. But if you consider his peers who do the same "decent" job, they somehow end up lower than him. WHY ? Again it is how he presents himself to the boss...Watch below some of his action. Never disputes the idea told by the Boss. Can always spot some think good in the Worst of ...

Ghasi - Hollywood Class

Film Ghassi was another film which really is a class apart from the run-of-a-mill movies. The entire film is shot within a Submarine and the plot is the Indo-Pak war under water in 1971. Viewer watch with bated breath as the story takes you through one sequence of attack after another. Its based on real incidents with how the Indian submarine inspite of losing its captain ,still fought valiantly. This is once in a blue moon kind of movie and matches the class of Hollywood mo vies frame by frame. Score: 4.25/5...extra credit for just the plot and the storyline.
